Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition Recognizes Beebe Medical Center
11/15/10
The Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition has presented Beebe Medical Center with the Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Award in recognition of the Medical Center's battle against childhood obesity.
Beebe Medical Center's Community Health Department focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing diseases and educating the community about health related issues. This past year, the department instituted the Triple Ten Challenge, a program targeting childhood obesity in Indian River, Sussex Central, and Cape Henlopen high schools. Students in these schools participated in weekly challenges outlined in Nemour's 5-3-2-1-Almost-None program. Prizes were awarded to students achieving positive outcomes and behavioral changes leading to a healthier future.
Beebe Medical Center also was a sponsor of the Sussex Child Promotion Coalition's Shore Fun camp that took place last summer at Cape Henlopen State Park. Participants, ages 11-13 received education on healthier lifestyles including making healthier food choices and increasing their activity levels.
Beebe Medical Center's Community Health Department also participates in Kid's Day at the Delaware State Fair.
