Patients and Staff Dedicate New Orthopaedic Unit
01/17/03
Over 100 area residents from Felton to Frankford joined Beebe Medical Center staff and affiliated physicians on Friday, January 10, 2003, to celebrate the official opening of the hospital’s new orthopaedic unit. The Open House featured a 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, a tour of the gym and patient rooms, a presentation of the steps of orthopaedic surgery (pre-operative to recovery), and free osteoporosis screenings.
In addition to displays and vendor information, patients and staff enjoyed a new, picturesque mural along the orthopaedic unit hallway, which is themed: “A Walk Through the Delaware Beaches.” Beebe commissioned local artist Andrew Dera to create the “tour” through Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, and Fenwick, to encourage rehabilitative walking for patients and provide a visual measurement of how far they walk each day.
“Beebe Medical Center gratefully acknowledges the support of our community, patients, board members, and dedicated physicians, nursing staff, and therapists, for enabling us to serve the growing need for orthopaedic services in our area,” explained Jeffrey Fried, Beebe Medical Center president and CEO, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Beebe also appreciates the time and support of more than a dozen of its former orthopaedic patients who assisted with the Open House and shared their positive experiences with other visitors. Beebe performs over 800 outpatient orthopaedic surgeries, 300 joint replacements, and over 100 spine surgeries each year.
