Tunnell Cancer Center Hosts Free Breast Health Forum October 14

09/22/10

Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center is hosting a free breast health forum on Thursday, October 14, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Tunnell Cancer Center, at the Beebe Health Campus on John J. Williams Highway, (Rt. 24), Rehoboth Beach.

No-cost mammograms will be offered to women who qualify, along with clinical breast exams to be performed by health professionals. Registration is required for mammograms. Call (302) 645-3169 or (302) 645-3100, ext. 2724 to pre-register. Each woman who participates will receive a free gift.

This initiative called SOS², Sharing Our Stories, Saving Our Sisters, is funded by a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Philadelphia Affiliate. Lay navigators, who are also breast cancer survivors, share their stories to help educate and empower women about their breast health choices, thereby saving lives.

All women 18 and older should have a clinical breast exam, and all women 40 years and older should have a yearly mammogram. Early detection saves lives.

Collaboration with businesses, organizations, churches, and community groups help spread the message that early detection saves lives. Mammograms and clinical breast exams are important diagnostic tools to identify breast abnormalities. If you are interested in co-hosting a free Breast Health Forum at your organization, please call (302) 645-3100, ext. 2718.
