Beebe Medical Center Recognizes Cheryl Littlefield with the "You Make a Difference" Award for July
06/30/10
""Cheryl Littlefield, RN, Emergency Management Coordinator at Beebe Medical Center, has been honored with the You Make a Difference Award for July.
As Emergency Management Coordinator, she is known for going the extra mile. She approaches tasks with determination and a warm smile. No matter what the situation, she can be counted on to volunteer her time and attention to the needs of team members and patients.
Ms. Littlefield, as the professional she is, consistently researches Beebe's policies to ensure that they are current and in practice. She is a devoted nurse and has genuine concern for patients. An example of her dedication cited by her peers who nominated her for this award had to do with how she supported the family of a child who had been brought into the Emergency Department as a result of a trauma, and who died. Though Ms. Littlefield was off duty at the time of the incident, she quickly returned to the Emergency Department when her pager signaled that a life-threatening trauma had occurred. She offered comfort and support to the family of the child. She developed such a positive rapport with family members that they asked her to return home with them and inform the rest of the family of the devastating news. One month later, the family returned to Beebe Medical Center and again thanked her for helping them through such a difficult time in their lives. Ms. Littlefield truly made a difference in their lives.
She also has been recognized by many in the community for her exceptional leadership skills during a very successful mock disaster drill. Team members and community leaders were impressed with her resourcefulness and attention to detail. They left assured that Beebe Medical Center will be prepared should a disaster occur.
Beebe Medical Center's You Make a Difference employee recognition program, which was established in 2002, gives employees the opportunity to recognize their colleagues for outstanding service. The program is similar to an employee of the month program, but 18 employees can be selected annually. Each nomination, which may be submitted by fellow employees or management, must meet criteria developed by the committee. The You Make a Difference Review Board evaluates eligible nominations each month. Winners are announced in a surprise ceremony in which the committee meets in their department and presents the award. Employees selected for the award receive:
§ Parking space with sign/plaque for a month
§ $100 gift certificate to business of choice within Sussex County
§ Letter of congratulations and personal visit from Jeffrey Fried, Beebe president
§ Photo for wall plaque on hall outside of cafeteria
§ Special pin for badge
§ Letter to team member's director and department recognition
