Beebe Medical Center Acknowledged National "Time Out Day" June 16, 2010
06/21/10
Beebe Medical Center surgical team that is made of surgical nurses, surgical techs, Surgeons, and Anesthesiologists took part in the National Time Out Day, designed to increase awareness of the importance of, and compliance with, taking a Time Out for every patient, every time, before the start of a surgical or invasive procedure.
As part of the national event Beebe Medical Center's surgical team members signed letters of commitment to surgical safety.
A Time Out allows the entire team participating in a procedure to verify the correct person, procedure, and site. Joint Commission reports that nationwide wrong site surgery is the most common sentinel event reported. Later this summer the surgical team at Beebe Medical Center will begin implementation of the World Health Organizations comprehensive surgical checklist to further ensure surgical safety.
